The Cabinet of the Madhya Pradesh government has approved three solar-cum-energy storage power supply projects with a cumulative capacity of 800 MW to meet the state’s energy requirements.
Under these projects, being developed by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar, approval has been granted for a 300 MW solar project with 4-hour storage, a 300 MW solar project with 6-hour storage and a 200 MW solar project with 24-hour storage (single-cycle charging-based energy storage projects), noted an official statement.
“These projects will ensure availability of affordable, clean, and reliable electricity, even during peak demand periods,” it said.
Solar energy is available only during the daytime and depends on weather conditions. Similarly, wind energy availability is uncertain and depends on wind speed and availability. “Considering the increasing share of renewable energy in Madhya Pradesh, grid stability requirements, peak-demand management, and the objective of ensuring 24x7 power supply, the establishment of renewable energy–based energy storage projects is extremely important,” it said.
