L&T Onshore has secured a large order from Petronet LNG, a joint venture promoted by four Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), GAIL (India) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL).

The project will be executed entirely on a lump-sum turnkey basis and includes engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)/ethane double-wall storage tank with a capacity of 170,000 cubic metres, along with a propane double-wall storage tank with a capacity of 140,000 cubic metres.

The facilities will be developed at the Dahej Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat. The scope of work also covers ethane and propane handling and despatch facilities to support the Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) and Polypropylene (PP) plant.

Commenting on the order, Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director and President, L&T, said the project represents an important milestone for the company. He stated, “This order is a significant step as we contribute to India’s first integrated petrochemical complex leveraging LNG cold energy. It aligns with the nation’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and strengthens indigenous petrochemical capacity.”

The project forms a key component of India’s first petrochemical complex that integrates cold energy utilisation from an LNG terminal.

E S Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President and Head of L&T Onshore and Member of L&T’s Executive Committee, added, “Securing this prestigious order from Petronet LNG is a strong endorsement of our expertise in executing complex EPCC projects. We remain fully committed to delivering this project safely, efficiently and within the agreed timelines, while upholding the highest quality standards.”

The project is expected to play a significant role in bridging the domestic demand supply gap for polypropylene while strengthening the country’s petrochemical value chain. The development aligns with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by enhancing indigenous petrochemical manufacturing capacity.
