Laser Power & Infra Secures CESC Order for Underground Cabling in Kolkata

Laser Power & Infra, an integrated power infrastructure company, has received a Letter of Intent from CESC for the execution of EPC works covering a distribution station and 33 kV and 220 kV underground cabling projects in CESC’s operational areas. 

The order is valued at INR 44 crore, and is scheduled for completion by March 2027. The scope includes turnkey works for the Kabitirtha Distribution Station, along with 33 kV and 220 kV underground cabling. 

A key component of the order involves the execution of a 220 kV underground cable circuit between WBSETCL’s Howrah Substation and CESC’s Botanical Garden Substation. The project marks Laser Power & Infra’s entry into 220 kV underground transmission cable execution. 

Commenting on the development, Deepak Goel, Chairman and Managing Director, Laser Power & Infra, said, “We are pleased to receive this prestigious order from CESC. Its significance extends beyond the immediate order value, as the 220 kV underground cable component marks Laser Power’s entry into a highly specialised segment of the power transmission market. This is an area where technical capability and relevant execution credentials are critical, with a relatively limited number of contractors possessing the required experience.” 

He further added, “The opportunity for Extra High-Voltage (EHV) underground transmission is expected to grow as power infrastructure expands across densely developed and land-constrained urban areas. Right-ofway challenges, critical infrastructure crossings and limitations around prolonged shutdowns are increasing the relevance of underground cable systems as an alternative to overhead transmission.

Successful execution of this project will establish an important 220 kV underground transmission credential for Laser Power and strengthen our ability to pursue similar opportunities. It represents a meaningful addition to our EPC capabilities and supports our strategy of entering specialised segments that can expand our addressable market and contribute to sustainable, long-term value creation.”
