KP Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to collaborate on large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage and transmission infrastructure, marking a major step in the Group’s international expansion and Botswana’s clean energy ambitions.

The agreement follows the recent visit of the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, to Botswana and reflects strengthening bilateral cooperation in the renewable energy sector.

The MoU was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which includes KPI Green Energy Ltd., KP Energy Ltd. and KP Green Engineering Ltd.. It establishes a framework for cooperation on the planning, development and implementation of renewable energy and associated transmission projects, with the objective of strengthening Botswana’s energy security and positioning the country as a regional exporter of clean power.

Under the agreement, KP Group and the Government of Botswana will jointly develop a portfolio of renewable energy and infrastructure projects involving an estimated investment of around USD 4 billion (INR 36,000 crore). These projects are expected to increase Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW. The collaboration also envisages the construction and upgradation of high-voltage transmission lines within Botswana, along with stronger interconnections with neighbouring countries to facilitate regional power transmission.

As part of the partnership, KP Group will support 30 scholarships every year for citizens of Botswana to pursue education and skill development in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability and allied disciplines. The initiative is aimed at building local capacity, enabling knowledge transfer and empowering Botswana’s youth to actively participate in the country’s clean energy transition.

Commenting on the development, Hon. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy of Botswana, said the MoU represents an important step in the country’s transition towards a sustainable and secure energy future. She noted that the partnership is expected to accelerate clean energy deployment, strengthen regional power connectivity and deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits, while also promoting skills development through scholarship support.

Dr. Faruk G. Patel, Founding Promoter of KP Group, said the MoU reflects a shared vision to accelerate the energy transition through scalable and sustainable renewable solutions. He highlighted Botswana’s strong solar and wind potential and said the partnership aims to support the country’s net-zero aspirations while creating long-term economic value and enabling regional exports of clean energy.

Under the MoU, KP Group will lead technical and commercial development activities, including feasibility studies, project design, financing, construction, commissioning, and long-term operation and maintenance of renewable energy and storage assets. The agreement underscores Botswana’s commitment to diversifying its energy mix and reducing dependence on fossil fuels by leveraging international expertise and capital.

KP Group currently has a renewable energy portfolio of around 6 GW in India and is targeting 10 GW by 2030. Beyond power generation, the Group has expanded into emerging green energy segments such as green hydrogen and ammonia, battery energy storage systems, and offshore and floating solar. It also operates a 45-acre fabrication and galvanizing facility in Matar, Gujarat, housing Asia’s largest galvanizing kettle.
