In a move that underscores Kerala’s commitment to clean energy and grid modernisation, the state has commissioned its first Grid Renewable Energy Storage System (GRESS) at the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) Headquarters in Trivandrum.
The pioneering system was inaugurated by the Minister for Electricity, Krishnan Kutty, in the presence of I.B. Rao, Managing Director of POM Power. Developed by POM Systems and Services Pvt. Ltd., the GRESS unit is designed to support Kerala’s renewable energy goals by improving power quality and providing reliable backup during grid fluctuations.
At the heart of the installation is a 100 kW inverter paired with a 150 kWh lithium-ion battery bank. The batteries are housed in temperature-controlled enclosures to ensure optimal performance and longevity, while an integrated isolation transformer and advanced circuit breakers add layers of operational safety.
The GRESS unit offers multiple benefits including peak load management, better voltage stability, and a reduced carbon footprint. With an estimated battery lifespan of over a decade, it promises long-term sustainability and cost efficiency.
This installation also marks a significant milestone for POM Systems, which has been innovating in the renewable energy space since 1998. The company views the project as a model for future decentralised energy systems across India.
As Kerala ramps up its green infrastructure, the launch of the GRESS system at ANERT HQ stands as a bold step toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
