Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation’s (UPPCL) auction for setting up 375 MW/1,500 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Uttar Pradesh with charging under the developer’s scope has discovered an L1 tariff of INR 6.45/kWh.

KCC Buildcon, Agastya Green Energy (Agastya Energy Industries), and MKC Green Energy (MKC Infrastructure) emerged as winners.

KCC Buildcon and Agastya Green Energy have won 187.5 MW and 62.5 MW, respectively, at a tariff of INR 6.45/kWh.

MKC Green Energy has secured 125 MW at a tariff of INR 6.46/kWh under the bucket-filling method.

The tender for this was floated in September 2025.

The battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) will be for a period of 15 years.

The projects will be eligible for viability gap funding support at INR 18 lakh/MWh under the VGF Tranche-II scheme.

The BESSD shall be required to set up a BESS, with the primary objective of providing stored energy from the BESS to the buying entity, on an 'on demand' basis. The charging power for the BESS project shall be arranged by BESSD from renewable energy sources.

Setting up the BESS and interconnection of the BESS with the STU network, including the construction of Bay, will be under the scope of the BESSD.

The project can be located anywhere in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Land identification for the projects will be under the scope of BESSD.

The discovered tariff marks a reduction compared to a similar tender floated earlier by NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam in 2024 for Uttar Pradesh, which was awarded at INR 6.64/kWh and has since received regulatory tariff approval.
