Karnataka has unveiled its bold plan to expand its renewable energy capacity significantly by 2030, aiming to add 19.2 GW to its current 18 GW. This was announced by Gaurav Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department, at the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST: 2024).

Speaking at the event, Gupta dwelled on Karnataka’s proactive policies to accelerate clean energy. He noted, “Our policies are crafted to attract investment, streamline processes, and ensure timely execution of renewable energy projects,” highlighting simplified land acquisition, expedited clearances, and incentives.

Karnataka's efforts to foster a conducive environment for wind energy investments were highlighted by Gupta, noting the State's success in becoming a preferred destination for such investments.

In addition to setting ambitious targets, Karnataka has already made notable progress in renewable energy. K P Rudrappaiah, Managing Director of Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), highlighted the commissioning of new wind projects in 2023-24, adding nearly 1,027 MW to the State’s capacity. Rudrappaiah emphasised Karnataka’s role in India’s energy transition, with a focus on hybrid energy solutions that integrate solar and wind power to ensure a stable and reliable energy supply.

At RE-INVEST: 2024, Karnataka was recognised with four major awards, showcasing its leadership in renewable energy. The State received accolades for being the second-highest achiever in overall hydro capacity, for the Pavagada Solar Park—the second-largest renewable energy park, and for ranking third in both solar and wind power capacities.
