In a fresh push to expand solar power generation, the Karnataka government is set to roll out the Kusum-C scheme in Gauribidanur, Chikkaballapur district, on June 11.
The announcement was made by Energy Minister K.J. George while inaugurating India’s first solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station integrated with second-life battery storage near Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
The Kusum-C scheme, part of the central government’s flagship Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), aims to solarise existing grid-connected agricultural pumps. This initiative will allow farmers to access reliable and cleaner energy for irrigation while reducing dependency on conventional power sources.
Officials said the scheme’s implementation will not only ease the burden on the state’s electricity grid but also help farmers lower their electricity bills and contribute to the state’s broader renewable energy goals.
The launch event is expected to see participation from key state energy officials, local leaders, and farming communities.
