The Karnataka state government has introduced a new scheme called ‘Mukhya Mantri Saura Krishi Yojane’ in the KUSUM-C model. Under this scheme, solar power plants with a capacity of 3,000 MW will be commissioned under the RESCO model at an estimated cost of INR 10,500 crore, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said during his Budget 2026-27 speech.
He further added that decentralised feeder solarisation of irrigation pump sets has been undertaken under the KUSUM-C scheme. “Projects with a total capacity of 2,777 MW will be implemented during the current year,” he said.
A 1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) was implemented across seven substations in Karnataka during 2025-26. In 2026-27, an additional 2,000 MWh BESS capacity will be installed at Huliyur, Pavagada and Kushtagi substations at an estimated cost of INR 3,400 crores, the CM said.
He further added that to promote the usage of electric vehicles, 1,250 electric vehicle charging stations will be established in public places with assistance from ESCOMs under the PM E-DRIVE scheme at an estimated cost of INR 777 crore.
The CM further stated that over the last three years, INR 48,000 crore has been allocated under the free electricity subsidy scheme, benefitting 36 lakh IP sets and supporting 21 lakh farmers who form the backbone of the State. “In the current year, INR 19,290 crore has been earmarked for this purpose,” he said.
He further added that to date, 1.74 crore consumers have enrolled under the ‘Gruha Jyothi’ scheme, one of the five guarantee schemes. “During the last three years, INR 28,000 crore has been spent on this scheme. INR 10,578 core has been allocated for the current year,” he said.
In 2025-26, to strengthen the transmission network, KPTCL had established 100 new substations. In 2026-27, 100 new substations will be established, announced the CM.
He further added that to encourage startups in the renewable energy sector, an Incubation Centre will be set up in collaboration with IIM Bangalore, the University of New South Wales, Australia and IISc, Bangalore, at an estimated cost of INR 20 crore.
