Karnataka Commissioned 200 MW Solar Project Under PM-KUSUM C, 545 MW to Follow: KJ George
Karnataka is developing 745 MW of solar power under Component C of the PM-KUSUM scheme, with 200 MW completed and 545 MW to be commissioned across 93 locations, as part of its 2,400 MW feeder solarisation target to ensure daytime power for agricultural pump sets, Energy Minister K.J. In Karnataka, under the Component C of PM-KUSUM scheme, 745 MW of solar power is being developed, with 200 MW already completed and 545 MW set to be commissioned across 93 locations, said the state’s Energy Minister K.J. George, following a review meeting with elected representatives and senior CESC officials at the Zilla Panchayat Hall in Hassan district.
The meeting focused on identifying effective measures to improve power supply and strengthen the energy infrastructure in the district.
George shared that Karnataka has set a target of generating 2,400 MW through feeder solarisation to ensure daytime power supply for agricultural pump sets. “So far, 3 lakh unauthorised pump sets have been regularised, and farmers located beyond 500 meters from power feeders will receive solar pump sets under the Kusum-B scheme,” he said.
The minister stated that each megawatt of solar capacity, under the KUSUM-C scheme, requires about 4 acres of land. Where government land is available, it will be allotted free of cost. Private developers must pay INR 25,000 per acre; these funds will be used to upgrade local government schools and anganwadis. If private land is leased, project developers will pay landowners a minimum of INR 25,000 per acre annually, stated George.
He further added that in Hassan district, the Gruha Jyothi scheme has achieved 99.86 percent completion, with INR 375.09 crore disbursed and over 3,600 rural electrification works currently underway.
