Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. (JVVNL) has issued an official order permitting the installation of hybrid inverters for Rooftop Solar (RTS) systems under Net Metering, Gross Net Metering (GNM) and Virtual Net Metering (VNM) mechanisms.
The order has been issued in view of the increasing integration of renewable energy sources and the need for improved grid stability, peak load management and better power quality.
The utility highlighted the growing importance of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in power distribution networks, noting that energy storage helps in managing intermittency of rooftop solar and facilitates better integration of distributed renewable energy resources.
As per the order, rooftop solar installations may include additional technology components such as small wind hybrids, battery storage systems and solar tracker systems in line with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) guidelines. However, the calculation of Central Financial Assistance (CFA) subsidy will continue to be based on the installed capacity of solar modules only, as per the existing scheme structure.
The decision is aligned with the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) Grid Interactive Distributed Renewable Energy Generating Systems (Third Amendment) Regulations, 2025, which recognises Battery Energy Storage Systems as part of renewable energy generating systems.
Consumers opting to install hybrid inverters along with their renewable energy plants will be required to comply with all applicable safety standards and technical requirements, as specified under JPR5-1219.
The move is expected to encourage wider adoption of rooftop solar with storage solutions, enhance reliability of power supply to consumers and support Rajasthan’s renewable energy integration efforts.
