Jupiter Wagons Wins 100 MW/400 MWh Standalone BESS Projects in West Bengal

Jupiter Wagon wins 100 MW/400 MWh standalone BESS projects in WBSEDCL’s auction. The projects to be developed at Jeerat and Kharagpur, in West Bengal, will be executed and operated through JWL’s subsidiary, JEM Energy, at a cost of approximately INR 400 crore.

Jupiter Wagons (JWL) has announced that the company has emerged as the successful bidder for two standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a combined capacity of 100 MW/400 MWh, conducted by West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL).
 
The projects, located at Jeerat and Kharagpur, were secured through e-reverse auctions conducted under a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB). The projects will be executed and operated through Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM), a subsidiary of JWL, further strengthening its presence in India's battery energy storage segment.
 
This involves supply and commissioning of an approximately INR 400 crore BESS project and will operate under a 15-year BOO model with WBSEDCL. The long-term operating model provides JEM with enhanced revenue visibility, stated the company.
 
The latest wins add significant scale to Jupiter Electric Mobility's existing BESS business, which increases its order book to approximately 500 MWh, valued at over INR 500 crore. JEM Energy is targeting a BESS order book of approximately INR 1,000 crore by FY27.
 
Commenting on the development, Vivek Lohia, Managing Director, Jupiter Wagons, said, “The successful bids for 100 MW/400 MWh of standalone BESS capacity in West Bengal mark an important milestone for Jupiter Wagons and JEM Energy as we build a scalable energy storage business. These projects add meaningful scale to our BESS order book, which now stands at about 500 MWh, valued at over INR 500 crore, and reinforces our confidence in the long-term opportunity for energy storage in India.”
 
He further added, “Our ambition of building an INR 1,000 crore BESS order book mirrors the pace at which this business is developing and the opportunities we see across utility-scale and commercial applications. As India moves towards a renewable-led power system, we remain committed to developing reliable, technology-driven and scalable energy storage solutions that can support the country's evolving power infrastructure.”
 
In the WBSEDCL’s BESS auction, NTPC Green Energy secured 200 MW/800 MWh of standalone BESS capacity in West Bengal, at a discovered tariff of INR 4.35 lakh/MW/month.
