JSW Renew Energy, a subsidiary of JSW Energy, has achieved a significant milestone with the commissioning of the first phase, totaling 51 MW, of its 810 MW wind energy project in Tamil Nadu.

The company announced this development, highlighting its commitment to renewable energy and its stride towards achieving ambitious generation capacity targets.

The project, connected to the Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) and awarded under Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) tranche IX, comes with a 25-year power purchase agreement. This agreement ensures a stable and long-term commitment to supply clean energy to the grid.

JSW Renew Energy's current installed capacity has now reached 6,822 MW, with an additional 2,969 MW under construction. The under-construction capacity is expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 12 months.

Prashant Jain, JSW Energy's Joint Managing Director, and CEO, expressed satisfaction with the commencement of the SECI-IX wind project, emphasizing its significance as the company's first and largest greenfield wind capacity. Jain stated, "With this, JSW Energy is well placed to achieve targeted 10 GW generation capacity by the end of CY2024."

The company has set ambitious targets for the future, aiming to reach 20 GW generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. Currently boasting a total capacity of 9.8 GW, JSW Renew Energy is on track to achieve its near-term goal of 10 GW by 2025.

In line with global sustainability goals, JSW Energy has locked in 3.4 GWh of energy storage capacity through a battery energy storage system and a hydro-pumped storage project. The company has also committed to a 50 percent reduction in carbon footprint by 2030 and aims for complete carbon neutrality by 2050.
