Jordan is set to meet its 31 percent  renewable energy goal by 2028 instead of 2030, driven by rapid solar and wind expansion and strong policy support, officials confirmed.

Jordan is accelerating its clean energy transition and is now expected to reach its renewable energy target two years ahead of schedule, according to the country’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh.

The original goal aimed for renewable sources to contribute 31 percent to the national energy mix by 2030. However, with rapid development in the sector, the target is likely to be achieved between 2027 and 2028.

“We had earlier set a 2030 target, but given the current progress, we expect to achieve it much sooner,” Kharabsheh told local media, describing the momentum as a “strong motivation” to further expand Jordan’s green energy ambitions.

As of the end of 2023, renewable energy made up 27 percent of Jordan’s energy mix, nearly double its share from a decade earlier. The country continues to invest in large-scale solar farms and wind energy projects, seeking to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.

The Minister reiterated Jordan’s long-term goal of reaching 50 percent renewable energy contribution, calling it 'attainable' given the nation’s current trajectory and policy support.
