Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) has introduced a new scheme under which users can minimise their electricity bills and collect their excess energy if they set up solar power plants in their homes.
There is a plan for a 20-Megawatt Roof Top Solar Power Plant project for Jammu and Kashmir.
In this scheme, 10,000 households, establish a power plant of three, five or ten-kilowatt capacity that will cut down the electricity bills of the consumers.
In the installation of smart meters, which are two- directional, the energy produced from the solar panels installed at the premises of consumers will be supplied to the grid.
The number of units generated by the solar plant will be subtracted from the number of units utilised by the consumer.
It means the amount of establishing the plant will be retrieved in three years and the consumer will obtain free energy for the full life span.
Establishing one KW solar power plant is equal to planting 66 trees per year. This will considerably minimise carbon emissions.
In the case of consumers utilising less energy than what is produced by their plant, the surplus energy will be deposited in their part for later purposes.
The government is facilitating subsidies on installing the power plant which is up to 65 percent of the project cost. The user has to give only 35 percent.
