James Durrans, INTER-TECH to Set Up Manufacturing Plant for Marconite Earthing Compound in India

UK-based James Durrans is planning to establish a pilot manufacturing facility in India for its Marconite earthing compound in partnership with INTER-TECH, with commercial operations targeted within the next 12 to 18 months.
The announcement was made during an exclusive interaction with Energetica India, where company representatives outlined plans to localise manufacturing of the Marconite earthing material for the Indian market. Currently, the product is manufactured in the UK and supplied in India through INTER-TECH, which has been associated with James Durrans since 2011.
David Wilson, Product Manager at James Durrans, said, “As India emerges as a major global industrial and infrastructure market, James Durrans is strengthening its partnership with INTER-TECH to expand the presence of Marconite in the country. While the product is currently manufactured in the UK, the company is now working towards localising production in India by developing supply chains, sourcing raw materials domestically and establishing the required manufacturing infrastructure for a Made-in-India Marconite product.”
He further revealed, “We're hopeful in the next 12 to 18 months to have established a pilot plant in India. And then once that pilot plant has proven itself in manufacturing to the correct technical standard, then we'll be expanding that plant to service the entire India. At the moment, material is provided by the UK, but we're looking to quickly establish a move to an Indian manufacturing process.”
According to Wilson, the move aligns with the growing demand for advanced earthing solutions across sectors such as solar, railways, utilities, oil and gas, and power infrastructure. He added that the company aims to source raw materials locally and gradually transition towards a fully “Made in India” manufacturing model.
Intertech CEO Gurmohit Singh said that the company has been supplying Marconite-based earthing solutions across sectors, including solar, railways, Delhi Metro, power and oil & gas projects. He noted that the company focuses on customised earthing system design based on soil resistivity studies, fault current analysis and site conditions before project execution.
The Marconite product, originally developed for defence and radar applications, is positioned as a maintenance-free and waterless earthing compound designed for long-term grounding performance. The material has been used in transport, telecommunications and commercial infrastructure projects in the UK for several decades, asserted Wilson.
The companies also indicated plans to expand their focus in India’s railway, power grid and utility sectors as infrastructure investments continue to grow.
