External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently co-chaired the 4th India-CARICOM ministerial meeting with Jamaican Foreign Minister Kaminaj Smith in Guyana. The ministers discussed various issues including climate change and trade.

In his opening remarks, Jaishankar said, "Energy, renewable energy particularly, is our collective interest. Many of you are members of the International Solar Alliance. I think 13 members are there from the CARICOM. I believe it's been of some help in capacity building, in some cases even funding. I'll be again open to take that help. Regarding capacity building as a whole, we have for many years now, under what we call, the ITEC programs."

CARICOM comprises 15 member nations and five associate members promoting a unified Caribbean Community. S Jaishankar participated in several meetings with different countries and energy was an important subject in many of these bilateral meetings.

The 4th India-CARICOM ministerial meeting was organised at the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana on April 21. S Jaishankar was on a three-day visit to the country. The minister will embark on a Colombia visit from April 25 to April 27.
