India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) have exchanged an MoU to implement ‘AI/ML-based Data Analytics for GUVNL Subsidiary DISCOMs’ at the Inaugural Ceremony of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held in Surat, Gujarat.

The agreement, exchanged on May 1, 2026, between Shalini Aggarwal, Managing Director of GUVNL, and Reena Suri, Executive Director of ISGF, aims to implement AI/ML-based data analytics solutions across GUVNL’s subsidiary DISCOMs, marking a significant push toward modernising the state’s electricity distribution ecosystem.

At the core of the partnership is a multi-pronged strategy focused on smart grid modernisation, digital transformation, and data-driven operational efficiency. The initiative will enable the development and deployment of advanced smart grid technologies to upgrade legacy infrastructure, while accelerating the digitalisation of Gujarat’s distribution utilities.

A key pillar of the collaboration is the use of AI and machine learning for demand forecasting, allowing utilities to better anticipate consumption patterns and optimise power procurement and distribution. Additionally, the deployment of analytics-driven tools is expected to support the reduction of technical and commercial losses, a long-standing challenge for distribution companies.

“The collaboration will further support state-wide planning, policy advisory, and capacity-building initiatives, including pilot demonstrations and scalable deployment of AI-enabled analytics platforms, digital energy solutions, renewable energy integration, electric mobility, and cyber-secure, data-driven power infrastructure across GUVNL and its subsidiary DISCOMs in Gujarat,” stated ISGF.

The initiative is aligned with Gujarat’s broader vision of building a resilient, intelligent, and future-ready power network. By combining ISGF’s expertise in smart grid and digital energy systems with GUVNL’s extensive utility network, the collaboration is expected to act as a catalyst for innovation in utility operations and energy management.
