Involt Energy Forays into Solar Cell Manufacturing, to Set Up 1.78 GW TOPCon Cell Factory in Gujarat

Gujarat-based Involt Energy has forayed into solar cell manufacturing with plans to set up a fully automated 1.78 GW N-type TOPCon solar cell plant in Rajkot. The company aims to expand with another 3 GW cell line and a 3 GW wafer manufacturing facility in the second phase, to strengthen its presence in the upstream solar value chain.

Gujarat-based Involt Energy has announced its entry into solar cell manufacturing with a fully automatic plant to be set up in Rajkot, Gujarat. The plant will initially have an annual capacity of 1.78 GW and will produce N-type TOPCon Solar Cells.

The Bhoomi Poojan (groundbreaking ceremony) for the plant was conducted last week. This comes at a time when the industry is facing a shortage of DCR panels, especially for government scheme-related projects under PM Surya Ghar Yojana and PM Kusum Yojana. Further, the inclusion of solar cells in the ambit of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) is imminent. The ALMM List-II for solar cells will come into effect from June 1, 2026.

“India’s fast-growing solar energy sector and the urgent need for reliable, locally-made components prompted us to enter solar manufacturing. We chose to start with a solar cell plant because solar cells are the core of the value chain, and India still relies heavily on imports. By producing high-efficiency cells domestically, we aim to support the nation’s clean energy goals, reduce supply chain dependence, and position ourselves in a high-demand, future-focused industry,” said Darshit Bhoraniya, Managing Director, Involt Energy to Energetica India magazine.

He further added that Involt Energy is planning to ramp production by mid-2026. “In the second phase, we plan to expand with a 3 GW cell manufacturing line. We will further strengthen our position in the upstream solar value chain with a GW wafer manufacturing line,” informed Bhoraniya.

The Group is operational in diverse sectors including tiles manufacturing, silver jewellery manufacturing and frozen food.
