An investment of more than INR 20,000 crore is expected in the Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana, stated Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav while speaking at the ‘Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana’ Summit in Bhopal.

He said that over 350 investors from across India participated in the event. The initiative, aimed at solarising agricultural feeders, is set to be a cornerstone of the state’s renewable energy strategy.

During the summit, Yadav highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s growing renewable energy footprint, stating that the state’s capacity has increased 15-fold, including a 48 percent jump in solar and 19 percent in wind energy. He noted that several solar and wind projects, like those in Neemuch, Rewa, and the floating solar park in Maheshwar, are already operational. He confirmed that land has been allocated for 22 renewable energy equipment manufacturing units in Mohasa Babai, expected to create 24,000 jobs, and announced that all government buildings in the state will have solar rooftops by 2025.

The CM honoured Bernard Kruseber, Project Director of GIZ, for his technical support to the program and emphasised the importance of collaboration with international partners like Germany. He also spoke of upcoming rotational solar power projects with neighbouring states to ensure year-round electricity availability.

New and Renewable Energy Minister Rakesh Shukla outlined that the Surya Mitra scheme would cover 1900 substations across the state, allowing projects up to 100 percent capacity. Investors will benefit from a central grant of INR 1.5 crore per MW and a 3 percent interest rebate for seven years under the Government of India’s Agricultural Infrastructure Fund. For the first time in India, the state will also offer reactive power incentives to promote efficient energy management. MoUs have been signed with State Bank, Central Bank, and AU Small Finance Bank to ease financing.

Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar said that the government is taking major steps toward ensuring green energy for future generations, reducing pollution, and providing enough electricity for all. He noted that farmers will benefit directly from solar pumps and that the state will purchase any surplus power they generate. Savings on electricity costs will be redirected toward building schools, hospitals, and other public services.

Additional Chief Secretary for New and Renewable Energy Manu Srivastava noted that solar power supply during the day is now being prioritised for farmers. He acknowledged the scale and complexity of implementing the Surya Mitra scheme but assured that solutions would be found. Additional Chief Secretary for Energy Neeraj Mandloi noted that under the PM-KUSUM-C program, the Government of India has given the state a target of 3.5 lakh solar units, or approximately 1,725 MW capacity.

Amanbir Singh Bains, Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam, explained the Surya Mitra Krishi Feeder Yojana’s implementation strategy. Each solar unit is expected to average 5 MW, requiring an investment of INR 20 crore. Investors, developers, and farmers can choose substations in any district and become long-term partners in the state’s development.

The scheme promises reliable income for 25 years and affordable electricity for agriculture. The Nigam has signed an 18-month agreement with GIZ for training and technical assistance, and plans to introduce a single-window clearance system for streamlined approvals and minimal documentation.
