Industry Commits INR 3,590 Crore for Decarbonisation

Industry commits INR 3,590 crore for decarbonisation at CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026.

Industry has committed around INR 3,590 crore towards electrification, process improvements, waste-heat recovery, digitalisation, IoT and artificial intelligence over the past year, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said.

The commitment was announced at the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026 in Hyderabad, which brought together policymakers, industry leaders, technology providers, academics and sustainability experts to discuss energy efficiency, clean technologies and sustainable practices for India’s transition towards a net-zero economy.

 

P V Kiran Ananth, Executive Director- Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy & Green Entrepreneurship, CII Godrej GBC, said that the investments were committed by participating companies as part of efforts to improve energy efficiency and accelerate industrial decarbonisation.

According to CII, the 27th National Award for Excellence in Energy Management received responses from 720 industries, which invested around INR 5,700 crore over the past three years and achieved savings of more than INR 7,100 crore.

Ananth said that energy efficiency remains a cost-effective lever for industrial decarbonisation, adding that combining energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, emerging technologies and innovative financing can support decarbonisation while strengthening industrial competitiveness.

The summit also saw the launch of the India Heat Pump Atlas – The National Installation Insights Dashboard, developed under the CII Heat Pump Alliance. The platform consolidates data from 13 technology partners covering 2,201 installations with a combined capacity of 288 MW.

Of these installations, 1,063 are in the industrial segment and 1,138 are commercial installations. Heat pumps have been deployed across sectors including automobiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, food, electronics, paper and petrochemicals.

The applications include hot water, process heating, drying, steam generation and boiler-feed-water heating. The Atlas also identifies 34 industrial installations operating at 100°C or above, with applications reaching temperatures of 140°C.

Krushna Chandra Panigrahy, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, said that energy efficiency and electrification would be central to meeting India’s rising energy demand.

He also highlighted the need to accelerate energy-efficiency adoption among micro, small and medium enterprises, while advancing industrial electrification, heat pumps, building efficiency, sustainable transportation, e-cooking and efficient cooling.

Tejpreet Singh Chopra, Chairman, CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026 and Founder & CEO, BLP-Industry.AI, said artificial intelligence and digital tools could help MSMEs identify inefficiencies, optimise processes and make data-driven decisions.

The summit also featured discussions on energy efficiency, renewable energy, electrification and decarbonisation, including emerging policies, technologies, financing mechanisms and international practices. Sessions also examined clean-energy solutions, technology adoption, measurable energy and emissions reductions, and the role of academia in commercialising clean technologies.
