The Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA), a global initiative launched at COP28 to fast-track the decarbonisation of heavy-emitting industries, is set to launch its India Project Support Programme on November 4, 2025, in New Delhi.
The launch will coincide with the release of a special report, India Insights Briefing: Unlocking India’s Clean Industrialisation Opportunity, prepared in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
India, which currently hosts the third-largest pipeline of clean industrial projects globally, with 65 commercial-scale projects, will see the ITA initiative focus on helping these ventures reach Final Investment Decision (FID) status. The programme aims to dismantle key investment and policy barriers, fostering collaboration among government bodies, industry leaders, financiers, and ecosystem partners to move from “plans to plants.”
The ITA’s India programme builds on its ongoing efforts in Brazil and the Middle East and North Africa region, aligning global climate ambition with actionable industrial decarbonisation strategies. The implementation phase will target near-zero emission technologies in sectors such as steel, cement, aluminium, chemicals (ammonia and methanol), and aviation fuels, industries critical to India’s growth story and climate commitments.
Speaking ahead of the launch, James Schofield, Managing Director, ITA, said, “India’s industrial transformation represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive economic growth, competitiveness, and climate ambition. With abundant low-cost energy, a dynamic private sector, and strong policy momentum, India is uniquely positioned to lead the global shift to clean materials, fuels, and technologies.”
Sumit Gupta, APAC Leader, Climate and Sustainability Practice at BCG, added, “India’s emerging clean industrial pipeline reflects both the scale of ambition and the urgency for execution. The ITA’s support programme will accelerate first-of-a-kind projects, creating a replicable model for large-scale decarbonisation.”
Yash Kashyap, India Lead for ITA, highlighted that the upcoming report and closed-door workshop will serve as “the first step in turning India’s decarbonisation potential into bankable, commercial-scale projects.”
The India Insights Briefing will map key clean industry opportunities, identify investment bottlenecks, and outline pathways to mobilise capital for India’s clean industrialisation drive.
