Indofast Energy, India’s leading battery-swapping solutions provider, has partnered with Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL) to set up 23 battery-swapping stations along the Aqua Line 3 corridor, strengthening the city’s push toward integrated and sustainable urban mobility.
Under the collaboration, swapping infrastructure will be installed across eight key metro stations—Aarey JVLR, SEEPZ, MIDC, Santacruz Metro, Bandra Kurla Complex, Dharavi, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk—enabling seamless last-mile connectivity for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and small commercial vehicles.
The initiative is aimed at easing EV adoption for daily commuters, delivery partners, and ride-hailing drivers, especially along Mumbai’s critical north–south transit corridor. By integrating battery swapping directly with metro stations, the partnership addresses range anxiety while reducing charging downtime.
Speaking on the collaboration, Anant Badjatya, CEO, Indofast Energy, said that the partnership represents a shift in urban mobility planning by embedding EV infrastructure within mass transit networks. He noted that the initiative would make electric mobility the most convenient choice for Mumbai’s commuters.
Echoing the sentiment, R. Ramana, Director (Planning), MMRCL, said that the deployment of swapping stations at metro hubs would encourage cleaner short-distance travel, reduce congestion, and support Mumbai Metro’s vision of eco-friendly transportation.
Indofast Energy currently operates 19 battery swap stations in Mumbai, including its landmark 1,000th station at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. With the MMRCL rollout, the city will host one of India’s densest battery-swapping networks. Each station will feature automated, multi-vehicle-compatible swapping technology, a key differentiator for the company.
Nationally, Indofast Energy operates more than 1,125 swap stations, has enabled over 43 million battery swaps, and helped electric vehicles travel approximately 1.17 billion kilometres, avoiding nearly 62,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The company continues to expand its ecosystem through partnerships with mobility platforms, vehicle OEMs, oil companies, railways, and metro authorities across India.
