The third edition of India–Sweden Sustainability Day reiterated the growing convergence between the two countries on industrial decarbonisation and green innovation. Hosted by Business Sweden along with the Consulate General of Sweden and the Embassy of Sweden, the event underscored a shared commitment to building a resilient, climate-aligned industrial future.

Centred on the theme 'Enabling Conditions for Industrial Net-Zero,' the forum highlighted Sweden’s continued leadership in climate action and its collaborative frameworks shaping the next phase of Industry 4.0 transformation. Sweden retained its second-place ranking in both the Global Innovation Index and the UN Sustainable Development Report 2025, signalling strong progress across all 17 SDGs. Against this backdrop, Sweden emphasised its intent to work closely with India, which is targeting net-zero by 2070, to co-create scalable decarbonisation solutions.

The event opened with remarks from Emil Akander, Vice President and Head of Region, Asia-Pacific at Business Sweden, who underlined the need for enabling environments that reduce industrial carbon footprints while strengthening global sustainability frameworks.

Sofia Högman, Trade and Invest Commissioner of Sweden to India, noted that the bilateral platform is designed to convert climate ambition into actionable pathways. She pointed to the India–Sweden Green Transition Partnership (ISGTP) as a key pillar shaping an innovation-driven, low-carbon industrial ecosystem.

In a joint welcome, Sven Ostberg, Consul General of Sweden in Mumbai, and Agnes Julin, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden, renewed the call for deeper collaboration to advance shared sustainability goals. They stressed that the partnership continues to set global benchmarks in green industrial development, inclusive growth and long-term resilience.

A central feature of the day was a panel discussion titled 'Collaborating for Tomorrow: Building a Resilient Net-Zero Future'. Moderated by Högman, the session featured senior leaders from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Grasim Industries, Alleima India, KraftPowercon Sweden AB – MET, and Atlas Copco India. Speakers stressed the importance of technology adoption, policy alignment, and collaborative innovation to strengthen supply chains and accelerate carbon reduction across key sectors.

The event also showcased active Indo-Sweden partnerships, including Atlas Copco’s collaboration with Bharat Forge and Flir’s engagement with MSETCL, highlighting the ecosystem-led approach that is driving multiple industry impact cases.

Business Sweden, which has been supporting Swedish companies in India for over 25 years, announced the expansion of its India footprint with a new office in Mumbai. The move enhances Sweden’s proximity to India’s financial capital and the industrial belt of Pune, a major hub for Swedish enterprises.

The forum spotlighted more than 20 collaborations developed through long-term strategic programmes leveraging Sweden’s Triple Helix Model, integrating academia, industry and government to accelerate the net-zero transition. These initiatives foster technology-driven partnerships through workshops, expert forums and business exchanges.

The day concluded with the launch of the Sweden–India Business Guide 2025, outlining a long-term roadmap for Swedish companies in India. Stakeholders reaffirmed commitments to deepening cooperation in the circular economy, boosting resource efficiency and scaling clean-energy solutions to support sustainable, industrial-driven growth.
