India’s Per-Capita Carbon Emissions Less Than Half Global Average: PM Modi

India’s per-capita carbon emissions are less than half the global average, while developing countries are often held responsible for a disproportionate share of global emissions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

Speaking at an international conference on environment and climate dynamics in New Delhi, Modi said that climate discussions should take into account differences in per-capita emissions and the development needs of individual countries. 

He pointed to India’s efforts to pursue economic development alongside environmental protection, including the expansion of renewable energy and measures aimed at lowering the country’s carbon footprint.

Modi also stressed the need for climate action that considers both environmental sustainability and the development requirements of emerging economies.
