Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its inaugural battery-swapping station for electric vehicles (EV) in Kolkata. This initiative, established in collaboration with Sun Mobility, is strategically positioned at the retail outlet in New Town on the eastern outskirts of the city.

The deployment of battery-swapping technology for two and three-wheeler EVs has proven transformative across India, offering a game-changing solution to address challenges associated with electric vehicle adoption.

V Satish Kumar, Director (Marketing) at IOC, emphasized the immense potential of battery-swapping technology in promoting sustainable electric mobility solutions. He expressed optimism about the positive impact of this initiative on the broader landscape of electric mobility.

In the coming months, IOC, in collaboration with Sun Mobility, plans to extend the battery-swapping infrastructure by installing more facilities at its retail outlets. This expansion aims to provide drivers with a convenient and efficient solution, enabling the swift exchange of depleted batteries for fully charged ones.

The key advantage of battery-swapping technology lies in its ability to reduce turnaround times significantly, enhancing the overall convenience of EVs for users. This move aligns with the broader vision of facilitating a seamless and accessible electric vehicle experience.
