India is powering ahead with a bold, four-point energy strategy ensuring that 1.4 billion Indians have secure and sustainable access to energy.

This was revealed by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri in his social media post. He further noted that India now sources crude oil from 39 countries, dramatically reducing its reliance on just a few traditional suppliers. This diversification has not only strengthened India’s geopolitical bargaining power but also built long-term resilience against price shocks in global energy markets. Ethanol blending, which stood at just 1.5 percent in 2014, is now on track to hit 20 percent by 2025.

This leap has already saved INR 1.36 lakh crore in foreign exchange and pumped INR 1.18 lakh crore into the hands of farmers, transforming India's fuel mix and empowering rural livelihoods.

He further said that in a major push to unlock domestic resources, India has opened nearly 1 million square kilometers for oil and gas exploration, having cleared 99 percent of previously classified ‘No-Go’ zones.

At the same time, green hydrogen is emerging as the cornerstone of India’s clean energy transition. The country is targeting the production of 900 KTPA of green hydrogen by 2030, backed by projected investments worth INR 2 lakh crore. "India is moving from energy dependence to self-sufficiency," said Minister Puri, framing this transition as a national mission of strategic importance.

Beyond infrastructure and investment, the minister emphasised the transformative impact of energy access on women’s lives. Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), more than 10.33 crore women have been provided with LPG connections, bringing dignity and health into millions of homes. Over 1.51 crore households are now connected to piped natural gas (PNG), and 99 percent of the population is covered under the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network.

Women are also stepping up as active participants in India’s energy economy, trained and employed across LPG dealerships, fuel retail outlets, and biogas plants. In FY 2024-25 alone, 42,800 tonnes of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) were procured, further reinforcing India’s green energy goals.

“Clean energy, empowered women, and transformed lives, that’s the essence of Naya Bharat,” said Hardeep Singh Puri in his post.
