India Plans 360 kW Charging Points Along Highways for Heavy-Duty EVs

The Electric Vehicle (EV) market is set to get a boost with the Central government initiating the installation of 360 kW Charging Points along highways.

May 16, 2025. By News Bureau

The Central Government plans to install high-capacity 360 kW charging stations along highways, expressways, and bus stops in order to boost the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in India.

The move will help EVs like electric buses and trucks, as well as premium and luxury EVs. The increase in charging infrastructure will boost the EV market. Although India’s EV charging network is growing rapidly, it often falls short of meeting the rising demand.

These heavy-duty charging stations will reduce recharge time to 15 minutes. Fast charging is essential to keep electric commercial vehicles competitive and operational.

Installing heavy-duty charging stations is a part of the Central government’s strategy to expand EV infrastructure across India, bridging the gap between urban and rural regions. This will see a boost in the electric transportation segment.

Fast-charging stations along highways will boost sustainable transportation in India and make long-distance EV travel more practical and accessible.
