India's installed renewable energy (RE) capacity reached 288.59 GW as of June 30, 2026, with solar power continuing to dominate the country's clean energy mix at 162.15 GW, according to the latest physical achievement data released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Including nuclear power, India's total installed non-fossil fuel capacity stood at 297.37 GW.
The latest figures show that India added 13.90 GW of renewable energy capacity during the first quarter of FY 2026-27 (April-June 2026). Solar energy accounted for the largest share of additions with 11,891.30 MW, followed by 1,348.55 MW of wind power, 650 MW of large hydropower, 10.40 MW of small hydropower and 1.04 MW of off-grid waste-to-energy capacity.
During June 2026 alone, India commissioned 5,844.31 MW of renewable energy capacity. Solar installations contributed 5,105.56 MW, while wind power additions stood at 636.35 MW. Large hydropower added 100 MW, and small hydropower contributed 2.40 MW during the month.
Solar power remained the country's largest renewable energy source with an installed capacity of 162.15 GW. Of this, 121.25 GW came from ground-mounted solar projects, 30.11 GW from grid-connected rooftop solar systems, 4.36 GW from the solar component of hybrid projects, and 6.43 GW from off-grid solar installations.
Wind energy capacity reached 57.44 GW, while large hydropower stood at 52.06 GW, including 7,425.6 MW of pumped storage projects. Biomass-based bagasse cogeneration capacity totalled 9.82 GW, non-bagasse biomass cogeneration reached 1.05 GW, small hydropower stood at 5.18 GW, and waste-to-energy projects accounted for 878 MW, including off-grid installations.
The MNRE data also showed that India's installed nuclear power capacity remained at 8.78 GW, excluding a 100 MW unit that has been temporarily removed from the national capacity count due to a prolonged outage since May 31, 2025. As a result, the country's combined installed non-fossil fuel capacity reached 297.37 GW by the end of June 2026.
