India Devoted to Development of Energy & Infra Projects Worth Rs 75,000 Cr in Partner Countries

India has devoted development of energy and infrastructure projects worth Rs 75,000 crore across partner countries over the past five years, as per Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

"As part of our active engagement with partner countries, the Government of India has committed to execute a number of projects under development cooperation. The projects cover a wide range of sectors like connectivity, energy, hydropower, solar, roads, agriculture, capacity building, and infrastructure," said V Muraleedharan, Minister of State, MEA in parliament.

The government’s total estimated cost commitments in these projects stood at around Rs 75,469.5 crores by the end of October this year. While some of the projects have already been completed, others are under various stages of implementation. This includes projects being developed under the Lines of Credit (LOC) and grants.

The massive project investment carried out by India in Africa includes Rs 582 crore Katende Hydro-electric Project and Rs 780 crore financing transmission and distribution project in Kasai province of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for evacuation of electricity from Katende Hydroelectricity Power Project.

Three multiuse agricultural project schemes in Rwanda worth Rs 710 crore and the renovation of Bulawayo Thermal Power Plant in Zimbabwe worth Rs 615 crore are also in the pipeline.

Major projects in Asia include Barapukuria-Bogra-Kaliakoir 400 kilovolt (KV) Line Project worth Rs 1,490 crore and infrastructure development project for power excavation of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh worth Rs 7,215 crore.

In Maldives, development projects worth Rs 2,965 crore are to be commenced soon and in Mongolia the industrial and infrastructure projects worth Rs 7,000 crore are under execution. Also, large investment projects are being implemented in Nepal, Sri-Lanka, Mauritius, Kenya, Vietnam, Uzbekistan and Ghana. Wind energy and power generation projects are also proposed in Cuba.
