India and Japan to Expand Energy Cooperation on CCUS, Biofuels and Green Chemicals
India and Japan have agreed to deepen energy cooperation by expanding collaboration on CCUS, green chemicals, biofuels, and advanced technologies during the Ministerial-level India-Japan Energy Dialogue.

India and Japan have agreed to expand cooperation on Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS), green chemicals, biofuels, and advanced technologies in energy sector, during a Ministerial-level India-Japan Energy Dialogue.
Conducted through video conferencing, the meeting was co-chaired by Manohar Lal, Minister of Power, and Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, and Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan.
India and Japan have been deepening their partnership in the energy sector under the Japan-India Clean Energy Partnership, with a focus on energy security, clean energy transition, and addressing climate change. Both sides have institutionalised this cooperation through the India-Japan Energy Dialogue and sectoral Joint Working Groups (JWGs).
During the meeting, Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) and Ministry of Coal made detailed presentations on the progress achieved under their respective JWGs and outlined future cooperation pathways.
“Our deliberations covered key areas such as smart grids, green hydrogen, renewable energy integration, energy storage, energy efficiency, and sustainable fuels. Both nations also agreed to strengthen cooperation in frontier domains, including advanced battery technologies, critical mineral supply chains, and Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS),” stated Lal in a post on X.
Ministers from both the countries reaffirmed commitment to energy security and inclusive growth and welcomed progress in areas like energy efficiency clean hydrogen, ammonia, renewable energy.
The Ministers also emphasised that the India–Japan partnership will continue to play a pivotal role in advancing secure, resilient, and sustainable energy systems in the Indo-Pacific region.
