India Adds 3.83 GW RE Capacity in August 2026, Total Addition in FY27 Reaches 20.20 GW

India has added 3,828.73 MW of solar and wind capacity in August 2026, comprising 3,445.30 MW of solar and 383.43 MW of wind power, according to MNRE data. In FY27, the country added 20,204.83 MW, including 17,779.35 MW of solar and 2,425.48 MW of wind capacity. India’s total installed RE capacity has reached about 295.55 GW.

India has added 3,823 MW of renewable energy capacity in August 2026, including 3445.30 of solar and 383.43 MW of wind power capacity, according to Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) data.
 
In FY27, India has added 20,866.27 MW of RE capacity till August 31, 2026, including 17,779.35 MW of solar, 2425.48 MW of wind and 650 MW of large hydro power capacity.
 
With these additions, India’s total installed RE capacity has reached 295,554.37 MW. This includes about 168.4 GW of solar, 58.52 GW of wind, 52.06 GW of large hydro, and about 10.87 GW of biomass cogeneration capacity.
 
In the solar segment, ground-mounted solar constitutes 123.99 GW, grid-connected solar rooftop capacity of 32.59 GW, off-grid solar power capacity of 6.63 GW and 4.83 GW as solar component of hybrid projects.
 
As of August 31, 2026, Gujarat leads India in total installed renewable energy capacity at 53,634.74 MW, followed by Rajasthan at 50,718.39 MW, Maharashtra at 33,278.09 MW, Tamil Nadu at 30,052.97 MW, and Karnataka at approximately 27,873 MW.
 
For solar power, Rajasthan ranks first with 44,370.37 MW, followed by Gujarat at 34,879.88 MW, Maharashtra at 20,398.93 MW, Tamil Nadu at 14,353.58 MW, and Karnataka at 12,014.48 MW.
 
For wind power, Gujarat leads with 16,721.75 MW, followed by Tamil Nadu at 12,318.11 MW, Maharashtra at 6,447.91 MW, Rajasthan at 5,689.25 MW, and Andhra Pradesh at 4,484.68 MW.
