IIT Madras has launched a specialised Power Electronics Finishing School in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and ITEL Foundation, with the objective of developing industry-ready talent for India’s growing renewable energy sector.
The six-month residential programme is targeted at BE/BTech graduates and early-career professionals, with a focus on power electronics and its applications in clean energy systems. It will be delivered across IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Bombay, with each institute admitting 10 participants, taking the total cohort size to 30.
The programme combines classroom instruction with practical training, covering areas such as circuit design, system integration, control systems, printed circuit board development, and hardware implementation. It also includes specialised modules on magnetics and thermal characteristics of power circuits, supported by faculty-led instruction and access to institutional laboratory infrastructure.
Eligibility is limited to candidates with a degree in Electrical Engineering or allied disciplines, with up to two years of professional experience. Selection will be conducted through a voice-based interview process administered by the ITEL Foundation.
Participants will receive a monthly stipend of INR 10,000 during the training period. The initiative is supported by industry partners including InPhase, Statcon Energiaa, Enspar, First Solar, L&T, and Ornate Solar, providing exposure to current industry practices and potential placement opportunities in renewable energy, electric mobility, and power systems.
