The Indian Institute of Management Udaipur (IIMU) is taking a momentous step towards a more sustainable future with the inauguration of a 500 kW solar plant on its campus, marking a significant achievement in their Sustainability@IIMU campaign.
This initiative is aligned with the institute's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting the adoption of renewable energy.
The newly installed solar plant is expected to meet 30% of the institute's energy needs, generating an impressive 2,500 units daily and an estimated 7.30 lakh units annually.
This significant energy production is projected to result in annual financial savings of approximately 18 lakhs, demonstrating the economic viability of sustainable energy solutions.
In conjunction with the solar plant, IIM Udaipur has also brightened the campus by installing 200 solar street light poles along a 3.5 km stretch of the inner peripheral road. Plans are underway to add another 100 solar light poles within the campus, enhancing safety and visibility while saving around 1.20 lakh electrical units per year, translating to roughly INR 11 lakhs in financial savings.
Furthermore, these combined efforts are anticipated to offset approximately 628 tons of CO2 from the institute's overall carbon footprint every year. Prof. Ashok Banerjee, Director of IIM Udaipur, expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable practices and responsible growth.
IIM Udaipur is not only setting an example but also inspiring its academic community with these impactful sustainability initiatives.
