India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) and Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster (BCKIC) Foundation have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and driving innovation in the cleantech, critical minerals, and energy sectors across India.

The collaboration seeks to establish a science and technology ecosystem by facilitating enhanced interactions among industry professionals from both member organizations, as well as with external stakeholders such as research institutes, academia, philanthropic organizations, and the public.

The MoU, signed by Debi Prasad Dash, Executive Director of IESA, and Prof. Mrutyunjay Suar, Chairperson of BCKIC, in the presence of Dr. Namrata Misra, CEO of BCKIC, and Dr. Jyotsnarani Jena, Associate at the Technology Transfer Office, KIIT-TBI, aims to amalgamate the expertise of the two institutions to foster knowledge exchange, drive technology partnerships, and catalyze innovations in the cleantech and clean energy domains.

One of the focal points of the partnership is the joint exploration of critical minerals for energy, energy transition, and green hydrogen space to nurture startups and innovations in these areas. Additionally, both partners have committed to collaborating with global counterparts in the USA, the UK, and the EU to spearhead technology partnerships and facilitate the transfer and licensing of innovative energy solutions.

Debi Prasad Dash, Executive Director of IESA, expressed optimism about the partnership's potential to tackle industry-specific challenges and harness innovations from startups and innovators that align with industry needs. "IESA will support the development of state-of-the-art advanced cleantech research facilities and infrastructure. IESA will engage with policymakers to advocate for policies that support a competitive and thriving energy sector. This can include advocating for streamlined regulations, tax incentives, and research funding,” he said.

Prof. Mrutyunjay Suar, Chairperson of BCKIC, highlighted the regional impact of the partnership, emphasizing its role in establishing technology transfer programs to commercialize research outcomes from local institutions and foster the development of advanced cleantech research and manufacturing facilities in Odisha.

The collaboration between IESA and BCKIC encompasses various areas of cooperation, including the development of a shared science and technology ecosystem, the creation of regional influence, and the enhancement of national and global competitiveness. Through this partnership, the two entities will collaborate on identifying collaborative research topics, particularly in energy and allied sectors, with a focus on developing commercial products/technologies and facilitating their deployment.

Furthermore, IESA and BCKIC will forge strategic partnerships with cleantech and energy storage companies, research organizations, and academic institutions worldwide, fostering the exchange of knowledge, technologies, and best practices to enhance global competitiveness. Additionally, the collaboration aims to promote and deliver training on science-based entrepreneurship and establish short-term exchange programs between industry and academia.
