Hyundai Motor Company has launched INSTEROID, a game-inspired concept car based on the hot-selling INSTER EV.
Revealed at an exclusive ‘Night Garage Party’ at Peaches D8NE in Seoul, INSTEROID challenges traditional EV design by merging futuristic aesthetics with immersive experiences to captivate a new generation of drivers.
INSTEROID, designed in secrecy by Hyundai’s European design team, infuses the playful spirit of ‘INSTER’ with the muscular energy of ‘STEROID.’ Its widened body, track-optimized wheels, aerodynamic wing spoiler, and distinctive gaming-inspired features push the boundaries of what an electric vehicle can be.
“INSTEROID is a celebration of pure fun, a journey where we explored new ways to ignite emotion and imagination in every detail. From its bold visual language to the immersive sound experience, it’s a concept that invites everyone to dream a little louder and smile a little longer,” said Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center.
Building on INSTER’s urban appeal, INSTEROID introduces advanced features like Drift Mode for exhilarating driving thrills, an integrated Beat House sound system, and an interactive Message Grid to personalize driver engagement. The cockpit design follows a stripped-down, race-ready approach with bucket seats, a roll cage, and an interactive digital cluster, reinforcing its high-performance DNA.
Beyond aesthetics, Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in INSTEROID’s use of eco-friendly materials, such as 3D knit fabric crafted from recycled yarns. The car’s soft white exterior, accented with a bold orange highlight, further enhances its dynamic and futuristic appeal.
Hyundai Motor has taken the INSTEROID experience beyond the road by integrating it into gaming culture. A time attack-style racing game, where players evolve INSTER into INSTEROID, will be released online in April. Additionally, the company announced the introduction of the INSTEROID Kart in ‘Kartrider Rush+,’ reinforcing its growing engagement with younger audiences.
INSTEROID will be showcased at the Seoul Mobility Show from April 3 to 13, with plans to make further appearances in key markets across Korea and Europe. Hyundai’s expansion strategy for the INSTER EV also continues, with plans to introduce the model to select Asia-Pacific, Middle Eastern, and Central and South American markets in 2025.
By blending gaming aesthetics, sustainable design, and high-performance innovation, Hyundai’s INSTEROID concept redefines the possibilities of electric vehicles—paving the way for a new era of interactive and emotionally engaging mobility.
