Hyundai Mobis has decided to build a new module (parts lump) factory dedicated to electric vehicles in Ulsan.
The plant supplies key modules such as the chassis and driver's seat for Hyundai Motor's next-generation electric vehicle models.
Hyundai Mobis announced on the 9th that it has signed an investment memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ulsan City to establish a new electric vehicle module plant. Hyundai Mobis will invest about 90 billion won to build a new factory. The target time for completion is the second half of next year.
Hyundai Mobis' new electric vehicle module plant will be built near Hyundai Motor's new electric vehicle plant in Ulsan. Hyundai Mobis plans to make and supply chassis modules and driver's seat modules for Genesis electric vehicle models.
The chassis module is produced in the form of a combination of a dynamometer (PE) system consisting of an electric motor and an inverter. The driver's seat module is a part unit consisting of driving information, infotainment (in-vehicle electronic convenience specifications such as navigation), air conditioning, and airbags.
"We will strengthen our partnership with complete vehicle customers by stably supplying modules optimized for various electric vehicle models in the future," said Lee Hyun-woo, Head of Hyundai Mobis' Module Business Division.
Hyundai Mobis is continuously expanding its domestic and international electric component production bases to respond to customers of finished vehicles that are targeting the electric vehicle market.
In Korea, the company operates BSA (Battery System) and PE system factories, which are key components of electric vehicles, in Ulsan, Daegu, Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, and Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
China and the Czech Republic also produce BSA and supply it to Hyundai Motor Group. It is currently building a battery system factory in Indonesia.
