Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan (HURL) has announced that the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC to explore strategic collaboration for the development of a Green Urea Project at Barauni, Bihar.

“The initiative brings together NTPC’s expertise in clean energy, Green Ammonia, CO2 Capture and HURL’s strength in fertiliser manufacturing, opening new possibilities for integrating green energy solutions into urea production and advancing India’s journey towards a low-carbon, self-reliant fertiliser sector,” HURL stated.

The collaboration envisages preparation of a Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) for production of Green Ammonia and capture of CO₂ at NTPC Barauni, with the captured CO₂ being utilised for Green Urea production at HURL Barauni.

The partnership will also explore opportunities under various Government of India initiatives and schemes relating to Green Ammonia, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), Green Urea and other clean-energy promotion programmes.
