Hitachi Energy has secured a 165 MW/330 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Andhra Pradesh, the company’s first BESS project in India.
The project represents Hitachi Energy's entry into the Indian BESS market and reinforces its capabilities in grid integration, power quality and advanced energy solutions, stated Ramkumar D, Senior Vice President, Hitachi Energy India, in a social media post.
He further added that the order reflects growing customer confidence in the company’s technical expertise and project execution capabilities while supporting the integration of renewable energy into the grid. The project further strengthens Hitachi Energy’s role in enabling renewable energy deployment at scale and positions it to capitalise on emerging opportunities in India's energy storage sector.
“This milestone positions us strongly to capture emerging opportunities in India’s rapidly evolving energy landscape, while contributing meaningfully to our sustainability and decarbonisation goals,” he added.
Battery Energy Storage Systems are expected to play a critical role in future power systems by improving grid stability, operational flexibility and reliability as the share of renewable energy in the electricity mix continues to rise.
Earlier this month, Hitachi Energy signed an MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu to invest INR 1,000 crore over the next three to five years to expand its technology and manufacturing operations in the state.
Last month, Hitachi Energy announced an investment of approximately INR 2,000 crore to set up a new large power transformer manufacturing facility in Karjan, Vadodara, with commissioning planned for FY28.
