Adding another feather in its cap, power technologies leader Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India has secured another order worth more than Rs 100 crore from HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Ltd (HRRL), a joint venture between state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd and the Government of Rajasthan.

The motive behind the project is to strengthen mission-critical power infrastructure at HPCL Rajasthan Refinery’s Barmer refinery and contribution towards the region’s economic development.

It will further help in powering HRRL’s new refinery and petrochemical project in the Barmer district of Rajasthan state.

Commenting on the order win, N Venu, Managing Director, Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India said “we are very pleased to be lending support to this project which will further propel infrastructure development, economic revival and job creation in the State.”

With a total processing capacity of 9 million metric tons per annum, this project is aimed at producing clean fuels and feedstock for textile, packaging and petroleum industries.

Significantly, it is also expected to create about 1,000 direct jobs upon completion, and up to 40,000 indirect jobs during construction, while contributing to the state’s economic development.

Venu further said “India is the third-biggest consumer of oil and refiners need to prime themselves ahead of time to avoid potential supply disruptions. Reliable power is indispensable for that and we are glad to have been chosen as the trusted partner by HRRL.”

The company is delivering a 220/66kV substation to assimilate power from the state grid and deliver it smoothly and efficiently to the Barmer refinery.

Also, gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) with its compact and low-maintenance design will be installed, enabling the refinery to conserve space.

“With this project, as a company, we have taken another step forward in meeting future energy demand with our pioneering technology solutions,” Venu added.

In order to maximize the power availability, the substation is equipped with advanced substation automation systems to control and protect HRRL’s grid. It is also deploying industry-leading power transformers, to further enhance power infrastructure safety and efficiency.

The company said that, this project is part of its broader strategy to penetrate the industrial segment and highlight its long-standing leadership in grid connections and power quality.

Despite order win, scrips of the company ended 936.20 apiece, down 4.05 per cent, from the previous close on the exchange.

Recently, the company along with consortium partner Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), had successfully energized the first stage of the 6,000 MW +/-800 kV Ultra-high Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission link connecting Raigarh in Central India to Pugalur in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
