Hindustan Power has announced that the company has been awarded a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) for developing a 120 MWh Standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across three critical grid substations in Bihar.

The project, awarded under Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB), will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) basis.

The installations will be developed at Bhagalpur (40 MWh), Udakishanganj (40 MWh) and Sitamarhi (40 MWh).

The Scheduled Commissioning Date for the full capacity is set for 18 months from the Effective Date of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA).

As part of the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s approved 500 MWh battery energy storage system project in Bihar, this initiative will not only ensure an uninterrupted and high-quality power supply but also help balance demand and supply during peak hours.

Commenting on the development, Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power, said, “We are pleased to join hands with the Government of Bihar on this project, which aims to create a more flexible, sustainable, and consumer-centric power infrastructure in the state. This partnership reflects our commitment to technological innovation and environmental responsibility. It is a progressive step toward building a cleaner energy future, and we remain dedicated to supporting the state’s clean energy ambitions.”

The project will play an important role in Hindustan Power’s mission to drive innovation in clean energy and directly support the National Energy Storage Mission by enhancing grid stability, flexibility, and renewable energy integration in Bihar.
