Hero Future Energies (HFE), the renewable energy arm of the Hero Group, has received the Innovation in Climate Change Award at the Aegis Graham Bell Awards for its pioneering green hydrogen project designed to support industrial decarbonisation.
The project, implemented at Rockman Industries’ manufacturing facility in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, represents one of India’s first industrial initiatives to blend green hydrogen with PNG and LPG in furnace applications. The initiative demonstrates a practical and scalable pathway to reduce emissions from energy-intensive manufacturing operations.
The project has an annual production capacity of 25 tonnes of green hydrogen, which is blended with conventional fuels used in industrial furnaces. This integration helps maintain operational efficiency while enabling an estimated reduction of about 206 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
Industry experts note that the initiative could serve as a replicable model for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors, including metals, cement, petrochemicals and heavy manufacturing—industries that traditionally rely on fossil fuels for high-temperature processes.
Commenting on the recognition, Srivatsan Iyer, Global CEO of Hero Future Energies, said that decarbonising industrial operations remains one of the most pressing challenges in the global energy transition. He added that the green hydrogen project at Rockman Industries demonstrates how emerging clean technologies can be integrated into existing industrial systems to significantly reduce emissions.
HFE is also expanding its Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) portfolio by integrating solar, wind and energy storage solutions to deliver reliable renewable power. The company currently has a global renewable energy portfolio of around 7.2 GW across operational and pipeline assets, supplying power through long-term agreements with utilities, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), and commercial and industrial customers.
