Haryana Targets 2.22 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations by 2027, Introduces Easier Norms and Interest-Free Assistance

Haryana aims for 2.22 lakh rooftop solar installations by 2027, offering easier norms and financial support under PM Surya Ghar.

The Haryana government has set a target of installing 2.22 lakh rooftop solar systems by March 31, 2027, under the Centre's PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, while introducing revised provisions and interest-free financial assistance to accelerate solar adoption across the state.

The initiative aims to simplify rooftop solar installations for households and expand the state's clean energy footprint. The government is offering interest-free financial support to consumers and government employees, alongside central subsidies available under the national scheme, to make solar systems more affordable.

Haryana has also outlined plans to strengthen rooftop solar deployment through awareness campaigns, streamlined approvals and improved implementation mechanisms. The state expects the relaxed norms to remove procedural hurdles and encourage greater participation from residential consumers.

It may be noted that as part of its broader renewable energy strategy, Haryana is also working towards solarising government infrastructure as well. A survey of 4,523 government buildings has identified a cumulative rooftop solar potential of 122 MW, with the state aiming to install solar systems on these buildings without relying on central financial assistance.

The state is also providing additional support for economically weaker households through state financial assistance schemes, complementing the central subsidy available under PM Surya Ghar. Subsidies are transferred directly to beneficiaries after installation approval, helping reduce the upfront cost of rooftop solar systems.

The rooftop solar push is expected to contribute significantly to Haryana's renewable energy goals, reduce household electricity bills and support the state's transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
