Vallourec and H2V have agreed to collaborate closely on the integration of the recently announced Delphy hydrogen storage solution.

The agreement, signed at Hyvolution 2024, will ensure Vallourec’s Delphy solution will be integrated into H2V’s green hydrogen projects being developed in Marseille.

Vallourec’s large-scale, vertical hydrogen storage solution is capable of storing up to 100 tonnes of gaseous hydrogen under maximum safety conditions.

During the agreement, H2 View caught up with Ulrika Wising, Senior Vice-President, Energy Transition at Vallourec, who said, “We will work together to develop the hydrogen value chain here in France, in Belgium and in the UK. H2V is one of the most advanced players in the hydrogen value chain in France, with the most advanced projects, and we want to accelerate as quickly as we can so we want to work with the leaders. Wising added that financing the project could be challenge.

She said, “From a technological perspective, we are okay, it’s more the financing part.”

Philippe Guillemot, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO at Vallourec, said, “This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) demonstrates Vallourec’s determination to use its expertise to help build a cutting-edge hydrogen industry.”

Alexis Martinex, Managing Director of H2V, added, “I am delighted with the future potential of this agreement, which is designed to address electricity supply constraints. Being able to stockpile hydrogen with Delphy will enable us to implement a more flexible supply system.”

Regarding Delphy, Wising told H2 View the 'economical optimum' is between 250 and 350 bars. She said, “It can be easily integrated into an industrial site or a large hydrogen refuelling station, because it has aminimal footprint and high security. We’re working with many developers in the hydrogen value chain today to deploy the solution. As known, there are very few projects that have taken financial investment decision (FID), so we’re waiting for the first one. First, we will build our demonstrator, with one installation built in northern France.”
