Gruner Renewable Energy has announced that its Compressed BioGas (CBG) plant in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, has achieved a record production of 23.5 tonnes per day (TPD) of CBG in a single day, the highest output reported by any CBG facility in Asia.
According to the company, the plant is operating at 120 percent of its designed production capacity, significantly exceeding typical industry utilisation levels, where many CBG facilities reportedly operate at 40–50 percent of installed capacity. The achievement also places the Satna facility as the second-highest performing CBG plant globally.
Gruner Renewable Energy said that the milestone highlights India's growing capability to develop and operate large-scale bioenergy infrastructure while supporting the country's transition to cleaner energy sources. The facility converts agricultural residue and paddy straw into compressed biogas, contributing to waste management, greenhouse gas emission reduction, rural income generation, and energy security.
The company attributed the plant's performance partly to engineering support from Gruner New Inergie Deutschland GmbH, its Germany-based Technical Excellence Centre, which brings more than 25 years of bioenergy experience and involvement in over 500 bioenergy and biogas projects worldwide.
Commenting on the development, Utkarsh Gupta, Founder and CEO of Gruner Renewable Energy, said that the achievement demonstrates India's ability to build and operate world-class renewable energy infrastructure while creating value from agricultural waste.
Mehmet Oenal, Chief Operating Officer of Gruner New Inergie Deutschland GmbH, said that the record-setting performance reflects India's growing expertise and capability in developing globally competitive renewable energy assets.
The achievement comes as India advances biofuel development through initiatives such as the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) programme and the National Bioenergy Programme, which aim to expand the production and use of compressed biogas and other renewable fuels.
Gruner Renewable Energy currently has an order book exceeding INR 4,500 crore and is executing more than 72 CBG projects across multiple states. The company said its projects are helping create rural employment opportunities, provide additional income streams for farmers, promote circular economy practices, and support India's low-carbon energy transition.
The company, part of the Gruner Group, specialises in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solutions for CBG projects and is backed by its Germany-based technical centre, combining international expertise with local execution capabilities.
