Grauer and Weil India (Growel) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Germany’s RENA Technologies (RENA) to establish a strategic joint venture in India focused on wet chemical process equipment, additives and related technologies for the photovoltaic (PV) industry. The joint venture will cover development, manufacturing, assembly, sales and servicing, with operations targeted to begin in early 2027.
Under the agreement, RENA will contribute its proprietary technologies and international experience, while Growel will bring its manufacturing capabilities, additives expertise and established presence in India. Further details of the joint venture are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Until the venture is formally established, RENA will continue to support its existing solar customers through its current operations.
The proposed partnership aims to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities for wet chemical processing equipment used in solar wafer and cell production. These processes play a critical role in determining cell efficiency, manufacturing yield and product reliability.
With India's solar manufacturing capacity expanding across the polysilicon, ingot, wafer, cell and module segments, demand for specialised manufacturing equipment is expected to increase. Advanced wet processing equipment is currently imported primarily from Germany and China. The joint venture intends to reduce import dependence, strengthen supply chain resilience and support domestic solar manufacturers through locally manufactured equipment, reliable servicing and efficient chemical use.
Commenting on the partnership, Sebastian Kress, COO of RENA Technologies, said, “We see a great opportunity in this joint venture with such a strong and complementary partner in India. Our customers in the Indian solar industry will benefit both RENA’s and Growel’s long-term commitment and the joint ventures ambition to provide excellent local service, leading process know-how and local presence in the booming Indian solar market.”
Umeshkumar More, Chairman of Grauer and Weil India, said, “The rapid development of India’s solar industry presents a significant opportunity to build specialised capabilities locally. RENA’s advanced technology and extensive experience in photovoltaics make them an ideal partner as the industry evolves. We look forward to combining our complementary strengths to bring global solutions closer to Indian solar manufacturers and contribute to the development of a resilient PV manufacturing ecosystem in India.”
RENA brings patented wet chemical process technologies and equipment solutions designed to improve process efficiency, optimise chemical and water consumption, and ensure reliable operations. These capabilities are intended to help solar manufacturers improve productivity while meeting applicable environmental requirements.
Growel contributes expertise in surface finishing technology, process development and equipment engineering, supported by its manufacturing infrastructure and experience in project execution. The company has completed more than 800 installations globally, providing an established base for the joint venture's operations in India.
