The Grid Controller of India, operating under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, recently hosted the Governing Board and Steering Board meetings of GO15, an association of Very Large Power Grid Operators.
The meetings took place in New Delhi, bringing together industry leaders to address critical strategic and technical issues impacting the safety, reliability, and sustainability of power systems worldwide.
Attended by 26 industry leaders representing 10 global organizations, including prominent figures such as S.R. Narasimhan, President and Chairman of Grid-India, and Dr. Bruno Meyer, Secretary General of GO15, the meetings provided a platform for high-level exchanges and discussions on key challenges facing the global power sector.
The year 2024 also marked the 20th Anniversary of GO15, celebrated during the event. This milestone offered an opportunity for reflection on the collaborative journey undertaken by GO15 and its members in advancing global power grid networks and expertise.
Narasimhan expressed gratitude for the enduring partnership, and said, “Grid-India’s association with GO15 has been since its very inception. It has been a valuable partnership that has helped in creating global knowledge pools, sharing expertise, and building strong partnerships.”
Special celebrations commemorating the anniversary were organized, with Dr. Bruno Meyer extending thanks to Grid-India for hosting the milestone event and acknowledging the collective achievements of GO15 members in building resilient power grids worldwide.
A panel discussion titled 'The Triple Bottom Line for Sustainable Grids: Adequacy, Reliability & Affordability' featured distinguished panelists from various organizations, including representatives from India, the USA, South Korea, and France, addressing critical aspects of sustainable grid management.
The discussions covered a range of global topics, including resource adequacy, risk management in power systems, emerging technologies, and collaborative strategies towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
Founded in 2004, GO15 emphasises the importance of transmission grids and resilient power systems in facilitating the energy transition. Through international collaboration, GO15 aims to prepare for a sustainable future, embodying the ethos of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World Is One Family) by fostering global networks, sharing expertise, and addressing shared challenges in the power sector.
