GreenH Electrolysis Develops Hydrogen Production System for India’s First Hydrogen-Powered Train
GreenH Electrolysis has developed the hydrogen production and refuelling station for India's first indigenous hydrogen-powered train, inaugurated at Jind, Haryana that features 1 MW electrolyser capable of producing 420 kg of green hydrogen per day and includes 3,000 kg of hydrogen storage for railway operations.

GreenH Electrolysis, a joint venture between H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies, a Green Hydrogen technology company and Castlegreen Energy, a company headquartered in North India, have developed the Hydrogen Production and Refueling Station for India’s first indigenous hydrogen-powered Train, inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi at Jind, on July 17, 2026.
Speaking of the development, Dhiman Roy, CEO and Director, GreenH Electrolysis, said, “ The inauguration of India’s first hydrogen-powered train is a defining moment in the country’s clean energy journey, and we are honoured to have contributed to this national milestone. At GreenH, we are proud to have designed and delivered the hydrogen production and refuelling infrastructure that powers this pioneering project. Our 1 MW electrolyser, manufactured at our facility in Jhajjar, Haryana using advanced technology from our parent company H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies, has the capacity to produce 420 kg of green hydrogen per day, enabling reliable, round-the-clock operations. We remain committed to partnering with the Government and industry to develop the infrastructure that will drive the decarbonisation of transport and other hard-to-abate sectors."
Indian Railways had awarded the contract to retrofit Diesel Electric Multiple Unit rake, on the Sonipat-Jind section, from diesel to a hydrogen-powered train, to Medha Servo Drives. In turn, Medha contracted GreenH to provide the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the Hydrogen production and refuelling station. The hydrogen production and refuelling station is a fully integrated turnkey solution encompassing process engineering, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls and advanced safety systems to support seamless train operations.
The facility features India's largest railway hydrogen storage and refuelling infrastructure, integrating 3,000 kg of hydrogen storage, hydrogen compressors and hydrogen dispensers with pre-cooler integration, enabling safe, efficient and rapid refuelling of hydrogen-powered trains. Beyond supporting this project, it showcases how indigenous innovation can accelerate India's green hydrogen ambitions while contributing meaningfully to the vision of Viksit Bharat.
