GreenCell Mobility (GCM), an electric bus platform, has announced the deployment of 75 electric buses in Puducherry, supporting the Union Territory’s efforts to transition towards zero emission public transportation. Recently, the Government of Puducherry conducted an event led by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, marking a significant milestone in the Union Territory’s clean mobility journey

As part of the Puducherry electric bus project, GreenCell Mobility is deploying a total of 75 air-conditioned electric city buses, comprising 25 (9-metre) and 50 (12-metre) buses. These buses are equipped with higher battery capacities and are specifically designed to suit Puducherry’s standard and trunk route operational requirements. The company has joined forces with EKA Mobility, for the supply and deployment of the electric buses in Puducherry. These buses will operate from the Mettupalayam Bus Depot, strengthening last-mile connectivity and enhancing the quality, reliability and efficiency of public transport services across key routes in the region. The induction of these electric buses will reduce tailpipe emissions and strengthen operational reliability across key trunk and feeder corridors. All buses are fitted with state-of-the art equipment including an Integrated Transport Management System (ITMS), Passenger Information Systems, real-time Vehicle Tracking Systems, internal and reversing cameras and differently abled-friendly infrastructure, focusing on safe, accessible and technology-enabled mobility for all commuters.

Commenting on the deployment, Devndra Chawla, MD and CEO, GreenCell Mobility, said, “With Puducherry, we are reinforcing our commitment to develop sustainable public transport ecosystems across India’s emerging urban centres. Backed by strong institutional capital and policy support, we are focused on delivering reliable, technology-led electric mobility solutions that cities and Union Territories can depend on for the long term.”

Beyond Puducherry, GreenCell Mobility is executing large-scale electric city bus projects across multiple states, including 700 buses in Uttar Pradesh, 150 buses in Surat, 582 buses in Madhya Pradesh, 750 buses in Andhra Pradesh, 915 buses in Telangana, 400 buses in Karnataka, and 570 buses in Delhi. The company also operates 50 intercity electric buses for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), reinforcing its presence across both urban and intercity mobility segments.

Backed by Eversource Capital, GreenCell Mobility currently operates a fleet of over 1,200 electric buses across intra-city and inter-city routes, supported by more than 270 charging stations nationwide. With projects awarded under the National E-Bus Programme and the PM Seva E-Mobility Programme across multiple states, the company continues to expand its footprint through its Electric Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) model, partnering with governments and transport authorities to build future-ready, zero-emission mobility ecosystems.
