Grasim Industries has announced that the company will procure 10 MW of solar power for its chemical plant in Ganjam, Odisha, from GMR Renewables under a captive arrangement.

The company has executed a Share Subscription-Cum-Shareholders’ Agreement with GMR Kalinga Solar Power (SPV) and GMR Energy to pick up 29 percent equity in the SPV at an investment of up to INR 3.60 crore in one or more tranches, the company stated in a regulatory filing.

The purpose of the acquisition is to meet the green energy needs, optimise energy costs and comply with regulatory requirements for captive power consumption under electricity laws, the company stated.

“We’re excited to partner with Grasim Industries to deliver 10 MW of Solar power from our upcoming plant in Dhenkanal, scheduled to begin operations in 2026. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to supporting large industries in achieving decarbonisation goals and driving India’s clean energy transition,” stated GMR Renewables, in a social media post.

Earlier this month, Grasim Industries entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Prozeal Green Energy for the development of 70 MW wind-solar hybrid projects. The project will comprise 49.50 MW in Gujarat and 20.50 MW in Andhra Pradesh, strengthening Grasim's clean energy portfolio while contributing to India's decarbonisation goals.

According to its Annual Report for FY25, the share of renewable energy in the company’s total energy mix in FY25 stands at 6.5 percent. The company has consumed a total of 38,59,333 MWh of energy from renewable sources. By 2030, the company aims to increase its RE intake to 16 percent.
